Tourism Channels $1.03 Million Annually to Other Industries
 

The impact of tourism and tourist-related industries reverberates through other segments of the Rhode Island economy.  Indirect sales occur when travel industry businesses, like restaurants, purchase goods and services from local suppliers thereby generating more economic output.  Wholesalers of fish and seafood; meat and meat products; beer, wine, and alcoholic beverages; gifts, novelty, and souvenir stores; gas stations; automotive repair and maintenance; linen supply companies and florists also generate a substantial part of their business from "Tourism."

Tourism Means Business...

►   Visitors to Rhode Island generate a "secondary" impact over and above their original expenditures
       creating additional revenue in secondary sales 
►   Tourism spending revenue more than doubles when the secondary impact of direct expenditures is 
       considered
►   Each Rhode Island visitor generates about $460 in expenditures, $63 of which goes to Rhode Island
       businesses that do not directly make contact with that visitor
